Hi everyone, I had my dog at the vets for the last week. He went off his food. Then was sick. We are not sure what it is. That is me or my mum. Luke is a yellow lab cross golden retiever. He is 11 years old. He had cancer 4 years ago and lost a leg. The vet cant find anything. They think it could be a grothe inside or prostrate. Do labs getcancer a lot? He keeps loosing weight to.

aw, that is so sad. 11 is getting up there in age. vet bills can get quite costly i know. but, he must eat to stay alive. have you tried making his food more appetizing for him? like adding warm water, mixing in some yogurt, mixing in some rice, or ground beef or chicken? you can mix in about anything that is not spicy or to greasy. apple sauce, oatmeal, pumpkin, cooked carrots or potatos. just a few suggestions. also, make sure he is drinking enough water. good luck with him. i know it must be very hard to watch.

well, if he's having vet treatment then presumably they know what they are looking for. And it's never wise to go googling or seeking internet diagnoses because ultimately none of us knows your dog or what could be wrong with him.

I had a yellow lab who developed pancreatitis at a similar age, but presumably the vets will be looking out for that.

I'm so sorry to here about your dog. My first guide dog lost his battle with cancer. I'm not sure if labs get cancer a lot, though I know they don't get it as much as some breeds do. Good luck with your dog. Hope things get a little better for the both of you.
